R&B chanteuse Macy Gray is one of the few artists in her genre who puts effort into making even singles sound great. Her voice, which balances between a tender croon and a gravelly moan, is a rare treasure that is showcased wonderfully here. The sentimental "Sweet Baby" is the highlight, featuring a gorgeous vocal performance and a smooth beat. The unreleased "Better Where You Are" is almost as good, capturing Gray's playful side on a Lovage-style funk exercise. The demo for "If This Is Luv" is rather hollow and underdone, but Gray's vocals are still a highlight; a live version of "Que Sera" is not as fortunate, as she sounds good but the arrangement is dull and lifeless. Still, this quality single just goes to show that, even on her throwaway tracks, Gray is a consummate professional who refuses to make bad music. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
