All Music Guide Review
Another strong volume in the Year in Your Life series, Year in Your Life: 1986, Vol. 2 collects some of that year's biggest, shiniest, poppiest hits, including Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love," Level 42's "Something About You," Wang Chung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight," and Steve Winwood's "Higher Love." The collection also features two of the year's biggest ballads, Starship's "Sara" and Cyndi Lauper's classic "True Colors," as well as two of 1986's bigger urban-pop hits, Cameo's "Word Up" and the Jets' "Crush on You." The inclusion of Atlantic Starr's "Secret Lovers," and DeBarge's "Who's Johnny?" also gives this album a better balance between rock and urban tracks than some of the other Year in Your Life collections. At just ten-tracks long, the collection is too short to be considered comprehensive, but Year in Your Life: 1986, Vol. 2 is still quite entertaining, and gives a good idea of what the year sounded like. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
