Germany's Talla 2XLC, a compilation regular, and Manumission favorite Cosmic Gate went head to head for the long-running Techno Club mix series. Though his mixture of chic space-raiders effects and deep traditional techno didn't always impress, Talla 2XLC's opening disc was plausible and flowed well, using Matt Darey, Push, and his own material to spotlight an almost total absence of ego. Cosmic Gate decided to take things elsewhere, their second set tougher and metallic. In a sense, part two -- from DJ Gius to Saccoman, Vanessa Mae, and Embargo -- ended up sounding like Felix Da Housecat's "Madame Hollywood" being played by Sumo wrestlers made out of oxidizing pieces of tin. Which, in fact, was considerably better than you'd think. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide
