This is a most unusual album. In 1945, Baby Dodds recorded the first two released unaccompanied drum solos for the Circle label. On one day in 1946, he recorded eight additional selections for Folkways, all solo and some including his reminiscences about early drum techniques. The performances on this 10" LP have been reissued, but even the reissue is quite obscure now. Although certainly for selective tastes, this is a historic release that should particularly interest drummers. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
