The Girls' Sound is a 50-track collection of some of the best-known songs from the girl group explosion of the '60s. This is a fantastically detailed set of songs, showcasing the catchy, poppy songs that created countless groups with names like the Chantels, the Shirelles, and the Ronettes. The Wall of Sound production techniques that Phil Spector pioneered are here in fine form (in fact, he produced many of the album's songs), giving the tracks the epic feel that they have. Packed to the brim with every instrument imaginable, these songs are little three-minute epics, perfectly capturing the angst and emotion of being a teenager (who was really the only audience for rock music at the time). So many important artists, from Meatloaf to Bratmobile to Destiny's Child, took influence from the songs found here.
