Techno mixes are very hard to screw up, although it is possible. A good techno mix can keep a theme or vibe running throughout, making sure everything goes together with a minimum of flow disruption. And that is precisely what happens on Deejay Parade Estate 2001, a two-CD mix from Italy that features some of the better club hits of 2001. Featuring some excellent tracks from Gigi D'Agostino, Stone Phazers, Dakar & Grinser, Deniro, and many others, this is one of the better techno collections to come along in 2001. The "new disco" sound that Basement Jaxx and Daft Punk brought to the mainstream is here, spreading its good influence on a portion of the tracks. Album highlights include Musique taking on U2's "New Year's Day" and turning it into a pretty great dub techno track, the joyous "Being in Love" by Slow & Newland, Eiffel 65's high-energy "Lucky (In My Life)," and Depeche Mode's creepy "Dream on Rmx." There is some filler, especially toward the end of the second disc when they try and justify having Depeche Mode's song with some awkward transitional music, but overall this is a quality compilation that should appeal to fans of the genre. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
