A Weezer tribute without a cover of "Buddy Holly" and "Undone (The Sweater Song)"? Regardless of these oversights, Rock Music: A Tribute to Weezer is a worthy paean to the post-grunge ensemble's pop sensibilities. Piebald's reading of "No One Else" captures Weezer's awkward teenage angst and then some, while "Tired of Sex," rendered by Mycomplex in a haze of somnambulistic bliss, is far more harrowing than ironic. "Jamie," a rare B-side fan favorite, is given an alternative folk makeover by emo-rock superstar Dashboard Confessional, and Affinity's hardcore version of "My Name Is Jonas" is proof positive that you can't keep a good song down. Among rock's ultimate "outsider" bands, Weezer should be delighted to feted by a posse of fellow outsiders who display unabashed gratitude through each spirited performance. Not essential but enjoyable, which pretty much sums up Weezer in the year 2002. ~ Tom Semioli, All Music Guide
