Fifteen alluring, sensual tracks define Pamela Williams' sexy saxophone sounds on this, her third release, titled Evolution. This recording is a great combination of soul-stirring R&B, elegant smooth jazz, and righteous funk that also showcases Williams' seductive lead and background vocals. She turns in great performances on the alto and soprano saxes, as well as the flute, keyboards, drums, and programming. The beautiful musician has definitely redefined her career on several excellent original compositions and on covers of such soulful songs as Michael Henderson's "At the Concert" and Roy Ayers' "Vibrations." Saxophone master Gerald Albright contributes a beautiful ballad richly sung by Pamela Williams that he aptly titled "Song for Pam." Musical genius Teena Marie delivers her show-stopping vocals on "I Am Love," while Tara Ellis turns in a supportive performance on the self-penned folk-influenced "Poison." Their mix of musical styles offers a nice frame of reference for Williams' present musical tastes and demonstrates musical and stylistic variety. For the most part, Evolution is deftly crafted, masterfully performed, and shines with the same brilliance as Williams' previous releases -- her 1996 hit debut Saxtress and the 1998 Eight Days of Ecstasy. ~ Paula Edelstein, All Music Guide
