Ugo Farell

The "Ugo Farell Vs. Jason Nevins" CD single for "Preces Meae" features three different versions of Nevins' remix in addition to the original version featured on Farell's album of the same name. The three Nevins remixes are essentially the same remix edited three different ways: there's the seven-and-a-half-minute "Club Control Remix," the "Club Control Instrumental" that strips away Farell's vocals, and the "Radio Remix" that edits the remix down to just under four minutes. If all you know of Nevins is his breakthrough remix of Run DMC's "It's Like That," you're in for a surprise: he takes Farell's crossover classical sound and lays it over a sugar-coated trance track that is about as commercial as trance gets. It's a strange mix of glowstick-ready trance and Sarah Brightman-esque crossover classical, not really something you'd expect to hear on the radio; however, this is intended for a European -- in particular a French -- audience, so don't be too surprised. Nonetheless, this isn't what you'd expect from neither Farell nor Nevins, so you can't help but feel a little disappointed in the results, even if they are mass market-ready. Thankfully, the original version is included for those who like "Preces Meae" without all the superfluous synthesizers zig-zagging throughout the remix. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
