    All Music Guide Review

Well, it had to happen -- it's just surprising that it took as long as it did. Now that Giorgio Moroder's E=MC2 and some of his other breakthrough recordings have been reissued on CD, it seems that the time is finally right for some of the world's top DJs to pay him a worthy tribute for not only his influence, but his techniques and production skills as well. Here are assembled modern day mixologists and turntablists who either reinterpret Moroder's work by creating something completely new from it, or act in concert with the originals to extrapolate the Moroder essence and move out into uncharted territory. For starters, there's Moroder's "The Chase," as remixed by Ham & Spoon, who take a shimmering disco track and make it a propulsive house anthem. This is followed by the title track from E=MC2 being savagely remixed by Talla 2XLC; they retain the essence of the track and its euphoric feel but funk it up quite a bit. Moroder does appear by himself here as well, in Danny Tenaglia's remix of "From Here to Eternity" and the "T & F Crushed Mendoza Radio Mix" of Moroder with Gloria Gaynor singing "Last Night." Even Sigue Sigue Sputnik jumps into the game with "Love Missile," as remixed by Westbam. And, of course, there couldn't be a tribute album without "Love to Love You Baby," this version performed by Tom Tom Club. In all, it's a sexy and diverse mix that pays a very fitting tribute to its subject, even the Todd Terry/Jill Jones re-reading of "Call Me," with its skittering snare drums and languid vocal phrasing. This is well worth picking up and just letting it play at your party. After the liquor and whatever flow for a while, some very interesting things will happen -- guaranteed. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
