Faith No More

The original incarnation of Faith No More went under the name Faith No Man and was a very different beast than the genre-hopping madmen of the '90s. Sounding all the world like Public Image Ltd. circa Metal Box, the band delivers the two songs with a tension that would become their trademark through their '80s incarnations. Singer Mike Morris is actually really good, using his John Lydon vocals to rant angrily over the solid background supplied by the rest of the band. The lyrics are the typical angry San Francisco punk topics: they hate the government, they hate their girlfriends, and they're terribly unsatisfied. Sounding better than they would on their official debut (1985's We Care a Lot), this single is woefully out of print and next to impossible to find. Faith No More fans should do whatever they can to hear this material; it is not only a good effort for a first single, but a solid post-punk/pre-goth single in general. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
