On many remix albums, listeners can expect quite a few post-productions from figures putting their own spin on the material, be it a house producer pumping up a down-tempo groove or a breakbeat specialist adding some spice to a standard rhythm. Waldeck's second remix album (following on from his second album) doesn't pursue many adventurous new sounds; more so than even Balance of the Force (Remixed), The Night Garden (Remixed) is a love fest of like-minded producers, each focusing on a similar vision of dubbed-out trip-hop. Only a few tracks push the BPM past chill-out territory, like the excellent dub of "Tears Running Dry" by avant-garde house head Herbert, or Mushroom Dive's "Frantic Ballroom Blitz" remix of "Slowly," which retools the deep, dubby minimalism of Basic Channel. But of course, there's nothing wrong with a common sound, and Waldeck's impeccable taste results in a lot of great music. Kid Loco's remix of Waldeck's cover of King Crimson's "I Talk to the Wind" retains the mystic qualities of the original, and the man himself contributes a few highlights under his Supercheese alias. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
