Monchy & Alexandra

The traditional folk music of the Dominican Republic known as bachata started becoming a dominant style in the tropical music field after the release of Juan Luis Guerra's Bachata Rosa in 1990. The duo Monchy & Alexandra, consisting of Ramón Rijo and Alexandra Cabrera de la Cruz, emerged in the late '90s as the music grew in popularity both in the Caribbean and in Latin communities of the U.S. After issuing the chart-topping "Hoja en Blanco" in 2001, the Dominican ensemble returned in March 2002 with Confesiones, featuring the hit singles "Dos Locos" and "Te Quiero Igual Que Ayer," delivered in bachata, Latin pop ballad, and merengue styles.
