This is the first in a series of mix compilations to be released by the Black Hole label in cooperation with United Dance Company, a Dutch "party organization." All albums in the series will be titled Concept, and each will showcase the mixing prowess of a different DJ. The series begins with DJ Montana, a United Dance Company mainstay and a young but already experienced member of the Dutch DJ aristocracy. The lineup on this compilation consists mostly of names that will be familiar primarily to aficionados of the European club scene: Tomaz (whose "Los Hijos del Sol" is given a nicely trippy remix by Filterheadz), Dimitri Andreas (who gets good and thumpy on the subtly sampladelic "Venus Attack"), Mauro Picotto (who keeps the groove quirky with a rhythmically obvious but texturally interesting contribution titled "Awesome!!!"), and more. Because the context here is strictly club and techno beats, the proceedings get a little bit monotonous if you're just listening. But if you're just listening, you're missing the point -- this is practical music, for a practical purpose. Get up offa that thing. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
