A Cage Went in Search of a Bird: Music Inspired By Franz Kafka compiles a diverse collection of recording by various artists, all of them relatively unknown. The compilation is released by the Bradley, IL, independent label Somnimage and features a total of 17 songs. There isn't a particular style of music common to each of the songs, though all of the songs are no doubt dark and gothic, albiet gothic in a Midwestern industrial sort of way. Some of the songs are dark ambience, while other are more archaic industrial. This diversity tends to be one of A Cage Went...'s strengths, with each song heading in a new direction. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
