All Music Guide Review

Rock Creek, Capitol City Dusters' 2002 release after a two year-long hiatus, is uneventful and sounds like most of the rock & roll-based music that seemed to be coming off the Dischord label at the time of this album's release. It's not that it's a bad record; it's just that it's kind of plain-Jane. If you're looking for something daring, experimental, or new, comparable to what Dischord has been known for, then look elsewhere, as this certainly isn't that. On the other hand, if you're looking for something along the lines of High-Back Chairs, with their sort of no-frills, clean-tone guitar alternative to alternative music, then you might really enjoy this recording. This disc brings to life a kind of singer/songwriter aesthetic, but unfortunately the music isn't developed much beyond the guitar-drums-bass-vocals nucleus, and the music leaves you feeling deprived or as if there could have been more. ~ Matt Borghi, All Music Guide
