This two-CD set aims to present '60s mod-influenced music from around the globe, with 32 tracks hailing from the U.K., the U.S., Australia, and continental Europe (Spain is especially heavily represented in the latter category). No specific dates are given, and very few of these artists will be known to those outside of this small scene, but it's apparent that everything or virtually everything dates from the late '90s and early 2000s. Almost by definition, such a compilation is not going to be presenting anything too startling. But as retro music goes, this is above average and does include more variety than most other discs with similar themes, throwing in some Hammond organ-led soul-jazz in addition to the expected guitar power pop. There's a little too much recycling of the Who, the Small Faces, and Revolver-era Beatles, as you might expect, though there are also shades of the Kinks, as on the cuts by Sidonie and the Solarflares (with a couple of ex-Prisoners), '60s spy soundtracks ("The 'India' Crowd" by Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E.), instrumental psychedelic soul-funk (Spick & Span), and Georgie Fame-styled organ soul-jazz (the Nick Rossi Set).
