    The metal referred to in the title of this 12-song compilation is mostly '80s hair metal. Ratt and Twisted Sister have the two biggest hits here, "Round and Round" and "We're Not Going to Take It," respectively. The rest of the groups are solid, middle-tier hair metal groups like Bulletboys and White Lion. Also included are tracks by decidedly non-hair metal bands Faith No More, who contribute their big hit "Epic"; Dio; Metal Church; and the late-'80s edition of Black Sabbath. Calling the disc "the best of metal" is a stretch, but it still is a fun listen and a partial snapshot of the '80s metal scene. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
