    If you wanted to be a successful heavy metal or hard rock band in the 1980s, you had to have a power ballad in your repertoire. This disc collects 12 of them. Some of the highlights include "Midnight Blue" by Lou Gramm, "When Children Cry" by White Lion, and "Headed for a Heartbreak" by Winger. A true best-of would have to include "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" by Poison or maybe "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" by Def Leppard, but this disc is still a good collection of the softer side of 1980s metal. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
