All Music Guide Review

Fatback Band showcase their more down-tempo, relaxed side on Mellow. Replacing many of their heavy-backbeat drum breaks with smooth mid-'80s R&B drum-machine presets, the group does a brilliant job covering such classics as "At Last" and the Chi-Lites' standard "Oh Girl," but the standout track is the 1983 politically charged rap "Is This the Future." While not an essential release by any means, it's a worthwhile purchase for any longtime fans looking to fill the gaps in their collection. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide
