    All Music Guide Review

Craig G and DJ Buck throw down for the April 2002 edition of the Cornerstone Mixtape. Craig G, the onetime Juice Crew member back in the late '80s/early '90s, represents WZMX Hot 93.7, while Buck represents WWKX Hot 106. Both DJs drop mostly East Coast tracks: Some of the artists Craig G features include Jay-Z ("Guess Who's Back"), GZA ("Fame"), and Mobb Deep ("Get Away"); some of those Buck features include Flipmode ("Here We Go"), Nature ("Nas Is Not"), and Tweet ("Call Me"). Located between the two sets, the "Cornerstone Inter-Mix-Sion" includes Tweet and Jade's "Sexual Healing (Oops, Pt. 2)." In addition, a second disc features more tracks, mostly urban ones with an R&B slant in unmixed, radio-edit format: Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You," Nappy Roots' "Po' Folks," and Truth Hurts' "Addictive." The second disc also features a few videos, including Nas' "One Mic." The array of music here is extensive and vast, making Cornerstone Mixtape, No. 38 a wonderful snapshot of its momentary era. The promotional nature of the double-disc album prevents Craig G and Buck from letting loose as much as they'd probably like, but the resulting listen is nonetheless worthwhile, particularly if you would like to revisit urban music circa mid-2002 for an hour or two. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
