All Music Guide Review

Morgan Geist doesn't strike all that often, but when he does, one can bank on the results being full of delights. Another 12" for his Environ label, Moves features tasteful hybrids that happily marry Italo disco, Harlem-birthed underground disco, and old school R&B and electro (electro in the Arthur Baker/Cybotron sense -- not the "electroclash" sense). Top it all off with a colorful modern edge, and you have three more reasons why Geist has become such a revered producer. The material here flirts with the playful bounce Geist is known for crafting with Darshan Jesrani as Metro Area, but it sounds distinctively less organic and more machine-based. Picking a favorite out of these three very different, very inviting tracks would be a disservice to the other two -- especially when each one manages to be honed to precision and effortlessly drop-dead catchy. Not only that, but these three tracks manage to fit all sorts of sounds without sounding stuffy or jumbled. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
