For an overview of a label that is named after a famous Boston ballpark and neighborhood, In Our Lifetime, Vol. 2 sure doesn't feature many Boston bands. In fact, the program includes only one -- Consonant, a band led by former Mission of Burma frontman Clint Conley, whose "Heaven" is a disappointingly goofy slab of post-post-punk. Stronger tracks come from the London-based Minutemen, whose "Words Fail Me Now" is an enjoyable excursion into emo-esque alt-rock, and from Aphrodite, who teams up with legendary rapper Schoolly D on the faintly jungle-inflected "Hoochie." Rival Schools checks in with "Undercovers On," a deceptively subtle song that grows on you slowly but surely, while Anna Waronker and Rick Bain & the Genius Position tie for first place with "Love Story" and "Not Now," respectively. On the downside is the mannered and boring "The Movies" by Radio 4. Overall, this is another good introduction to one of Boston's finer indie labels. Recommended. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
