Essentials does indeed collect KC & the Sunshine Band's best-known songs, including the hits "Shake Your Bootie," "That's The Way I Like It," and "Get Down Tonight." The album also includes some of their earliest tracks, such as "Queen of Clubs" and "Sound Your Funky Horn," as well as their campy, disco-fied cover of "The Same Old Song." "Keep It Coming," "I'm Your Boogie Man," and the other songs included on Essentials reaffirm how consistent and fun KC & the Sunshine Band's melding of pop, funk, disco, and soul was. Though this collection isn't as comprehensive as 1990's The Best of KC & the Sunshine Band, Essentials certainly provides all the KC & the Sunshine Band casual fans will need. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
