    All Music Guide Review

With the hot-aired blastoff of white and pink noise that launched The Tomita Planets, RCA put together a second collection of excerpts ("hits" is not exactly the right term for this) from the Japanese synthesist's catalog. All seven of Tomita's then-extant albums are represented, with the first album, Snowflakes Are Dancing, and The Planets receiving the heaviest play with three selections each. There are just two unusual choices -- a meticulous, driving transcription of Honegger's "Pacific 231" (from Kosmos) and the transformation of an excerpt from Prokofiev's "Symphony No. 6" into "The Dazzling Cylinder That Crashed in Tunguska, Siberia" (from The Bermuda Triangle). In its eclectic sweep, Vol. 2 is as good a choice for a Tomita sampler as Vol. 1, although the later Space Walk compilation is even more appealing. ~ Richard S. Ginell, All Music Guide
