No longer with a major label, theSTART trudged on and released a self-titled EP in summer 2002. The band's 2001 new wave blast debut, Shakedown!, left fans hungry for more, so this six-song mini-album is a treat. Elements of the Cure and Depeche Mode are obvious throughout, especially on the goth-driven swan song "Trinity." One can notice that the band is sticking with its formulaic dance-punk without getting monotonous. Frontwoman Aimee Echo is vocally sharp and stylish, almost a match for Lene Lovich on tracks like "Death Via Satellite" and the ballsy "Big Shot." Hopefully, theSTART will find label support, for their sound is far too infectious to be left alone. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
