    The second volume in a This Is... series focused on hip-hop and urban music, This Is the Best of R&B, Vol. 2 offers six more discs of new-school R&B (four of them original material, along with two mixed sets of the tracks heard on the other four). As with other releases by the label, only a few tracks are worthy of the lofty title, but the rest follow closely behind. Among the masterpieces: R. Kelly's "Bump and Grind," Aaliyah's "Back & Forth," and L.V.'s "Gangsta's Paradise." There are also quite a few tracks that would settle more happily on a straight-ahead rap compilation, like Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg's "187 Um," Noreaga's "Superthug," and 2Pac's "Happy Home." ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
