A couple of latter-day Motown records from the Four Tops, this reissue of 1968's Yesterday's Dreams with 1969's Soul Spin boasts few hits and gives over most of the running time to ill-advised covers. The Tops attempt all manner of popular charts from the late '60s -- "Sunny," "California Dreamin'," "Daydream Believer," "Light My Fire," and "This Guy's in Love With You" -- and succeed only when the arrangement is modified for a Motown format. Including lots of crossover material may have moved a few more LPs then, but it hardly made for great listening anytime after. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
