Tiomkin was arguably the least talented of the major composers associated with Hollywood, and a surprising amount of the material here simply doesn't hold up. On the other hand, the 23-minute suite from Lost Horizon does, and then some -- a radiant pastiche of largely Russian influences that surges and soars brilliantly.
