    The surging sentimentality of the ranchera style seems at odds with The Best of Ranchero's cheesecake cover art and inclusion in Madacy's Latin Seduction series. Nevertheless, the album presents 12 songs in the ranchera style performed by a series of unknowns. Highlights include the classic "Bésame Mucho," "El Pastor"'s expressive, emotion-dripped vocal, and the colorful accordion of "El Rey." Throughout, strummed acoustic guitar lends a wiry, sun-drenched feel to the proceedings. It shouldn't be the first collection of ranchera you reach for, but Latin Seduction: The Best of Ranchero offers more than its blatant cover art might suggest. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
