    All Music Guide Review

Midge Ure had already had a well-traveled career with stints of varying consequence in Slik, Rich Kids, Visage, and, briefly, Thin Lizzy by the time he joined Ultravox in 1980. The guitarist and singer was essential to Ultravox's '80s success as one of the more popular new romantic bands. Ure also managed to have some solo hits in the middle of the decade and co-wrote "Do They Know Its Christmas?" with Bob Geldof (included here). All of Ultavox's best-known tracks are here, including the sumptuous, if overblown, "Vienna" and the slick, dance-rocker "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes," as well as Ure's U.K. number one "If I Was" and the jangly, wistful "Dear God." Visage's "Fade to Grey" and a solo cover of David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" help round out a solid, if chronologically challenged, overview of Ure's career. ~ Tom Demalon, All Music Guide
