Billy Vaughn got a little cocky with the title of this 1964 effort, Another Hit Album! Luckily for him it was a hit, but one that spent only three weeks on the charts. A better title would have been Another's Hits Album, since the platter contains Vaughn's instrumental arrangements of other artists' hits. The repertoire is unusually far-ranging, from Hank Snow's "I'm Movin' On" to Barbra Streisand's "People." There are also a pair of gospel standards ("Just a Closer Walk With Thee," "Peace in the Valley") and Rod McKuen's "The World I Used to Know" on this rampantly diverse disc. The musical styles swing wildly from harmonica-driven rock & roll ("Memphis") to string-laden orchestral pieces. In trying to offer something for everyone with his grab-bag approach, Vaughn is likely to please very few. It could be argued that fans voted down this concept with their pocketbooks since Another Hit Album! fared relatively poorly at a time when Vaughn typically enjoyed solid album success. ~ Greg Adams, Rovi
