On the Walkabouts' debut, the band's sound is still in its embryonic stages; the focus is on jangly, electric folk-rock, with few traces of the country, blues and roots music from which their later work would draw. Still, the songwriting of Chris Eckman and Carla Torgerson is already strong, and Torgerson's vocals are lovely. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
