Like its predecessor, West Coast Rap: The First Dynasty, Vol. 2 is short on indisputable classics, yet the overall quality of the material is quite high. Over the course of 13 tracks, West Coast Rap runs through several funky old-school highlights from the likes of Ice-T ("Body Rock"), D.J. Matrix ("Feel My Bass"), Kid Frost ("Rough Cut"), L.A. Dream Team ("Calling on the Dream Team"), Darkstar ("Sexybaby") and Egyptian Lover ("Freak-A-Holic"). Most of this is simply party music, but it's good party music, and the collection is worthwhile for any devoted rap listener, even though its momentum occasionally sags. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
