WORLD OF THE ZOMBIES: TRIBUTE TO ZOMBIES / VARIOUS

    All Music Guide Review

It's a bit of an odd concept selecting various Seattle power-pop bands to pay tribute to the Zombies -- especially when one considers the mid-'90s resurgence of orchestral pop composition, with bands like the High Llamas, Ladybug Transistor, and countless others. The result is a record that could be seen as graceful or disgraceful, depending upon one's opinion of the Zombies themselves and which tracks one listens to: Zumpano does justice to the elaborate pop sophistication of "Changes," but Flop's "She Does Everything for Me" seems to miss the point entirely, reducing the song to relatively unadorned power-pop. Other selections feature the Posies and the Young Fresh Fellows (both of whom are charming, as always), and a groovy Steam Kings cover of "She's Not There." ~ Nitsuh Abebe, All Music Guide
