Performed by George E. Lewis on trombones and computer electronics, and Roscoe Mitchell on saxophones, "Voyager" is an interactive computer music composition "which analyzes aspects of an improviser's performance in real time, using that analysis to guide an automatic composing program that generates complex responses to the musician's playing" (Lewis). Lewis thus takes computer-instrumentalist interaction one step further, and this procedure results in a vast and continually fascinating range of emotional nuance, from the plaintive to the dense and propelled. The playing of legendary Roscoe Mitchell is attuned to the finest details of this musical situation, and he continually supplies fascinating new material. ~ "Blue" Gene Tyranny, Rovi
