Leading off with a cover of William DeVaughn's 1974 hit "Be Thankful For What You Got," Australian Peter Blakeley attempts a soul/blues-pop crossover very much in the style of Red Hucknall and Simply Red. This sort of thing tends to play better in the countries of the British Commonwealth than it does in the U.S., where the music originated, and despite high-powered American backing (Peter Asher Management, Irving Azoff's Giant Records), Blakeley has failed to catch on. And that's fine, since this record provides a dictionary definition of the word "derivatives." ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
