The first of a series chronicling the fascinating history and music of the Indian film world. Taking from movies made between 1955-1981, Golden Voices includes ten fine examples of the hyper eclectic sounds commonly heard in the thousands of films the Indian film industry has made (they out produce Hollywood by a long shot). This first volume mostly features vintage sides from the '50s and '60s, with a majority of the songs containing a widescreen mix of traditional Indian music and Western classical and pop elements. The disc also features the fetching pipes of such Indian singing stars as Asha Bosle, Mohammed Rafi, and Latta Mangashkar. Collect them all. ~ Stephen Cook, All Music Guide
