Combining their first release with a four-song EP, In Search of Manny/Daughters of the Kaos represents the complete pre-Natural Ingredients works of Luscious Jackson. With only two tracks not present on In Search of Manny, Daughters of the Kaos isn't a monumentally important addition to the band's oeuvre, however, both "Surprise" and "Find Your Mind" hold up well with Luscious Jackson's smashing debut material. The discs' scintillating mix of funky horns, breakbeats, and drum samples combined with Luscious Jackson's white-girl indie rock, pop, and rap is as daring as it is satisfying. Over their career, Jill Cunnif, Gabby Glaser, Kate Schellenbach, and Vivian Trimble would refine their eclectic combination of hip-hop, alternative, and indie-pop, but each offering on In Search of Manny, Daughters of the Kaos has it's own charm and artistic grounding. Like every Luscious Jackson effort, this two-CD package is well worth any reasonable purchase price...and then some. ~ Vincent Jeffries, All Music Guide
