All Music Guide Review

On the heels of his many groundbreaking 12" releases from 1982-1984, Afrika Bambaataa hooked up with the funk originator, James Brown. Divided into six parts, Unity wends it way through tight grooves, lively repartee, and rap commentary, all using the funk to bring a better day. The Sugar Hill house band is recruited to help out on the instrumental end, with standout work coming from bassist Doug Wimbish, guitarist Skip McDonald, and drummer Keith LeBlanc (this trio would later become the main band for producer Adrian Maxwell Sherwood's On U Sound label). Maybe not essential listening, but certainly a must for dedicated Bambaataa and Brown fans. ~ Stephen Cook, All Music Guide
