    All Music Guide Review

The seventh volume of Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80's isn't necessarily a low point in the series, but it's not one of the best editions, either. There are some great moments, to be sure, and they're as diverse as ever -- Haircut One Hundred's pre-twee "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)," the Blasters' "I'm Shakin'," Split Enz' banned-in-Britain "Six Months in a Leaky Boat," X's "Blue Spark," Joe "King" Carrasco's "Party Weekend," Musical Youth's diluted reggae "Pass the Dutchie," Trio's sublimely silly "Da Da Da I Don't Love You You Don't Love me Aha Aha Aha," and, yeah, even Wide Boy Awake's novelty "Chicken Outlaw." But, they don't hold together particularly well, and they're surrounded by songs that fit the mood even worse (really, even if it was a fluke hit, Laurie Anderson's "O Superman" would not sound good on any collection). There are enough good moments to justify its place in a new wave library, but outside of new wave collectors, this is probably not a great listen. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
