All Music Guide Review
Sounds of the Seventies: 1970 is another fine entry in a fine series from Time -Life. It collects 21 songs that made the year what it was, while drawing from a wide range of styles and genres. It provides both a fine introduction to the year's music and a highly entertaining exercise in nostalgia, and either way it is a blast. The highlights range from the sublime (Smokey Robinson & the Miracles' "Tears of a Clown," Van Morrison's "Domino") to the fairly ridiculous (the Jaggerz's "The Rapper," Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky") with plenty of classic rock and pop greatness in between (the Jackson 5's "ABC," James Taylor's "Fire and Rain," the Bee Gees' "Lonely Days"). ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
