    All Music Guide Review

Time-Life's Sounds of the Seventies: 1979 - Take Two is an engaging mix of styles and sounds that does a fine job of capturing the feel of the year. The 18 songs are all hits both minor and blockbuster and range from the pop-disco of the Village People ("Y.M.C.A."), the soft pop/rock of the Babys ("Every Time I Think of You") and Nicolette Larson ("Lotta Love"), the new wave pop of Joe Jackson ("Is She Really Going out with Him?") and Blondie ("One Way or Another"), and the light funk of Raydio ("You Can't Change That") to the hard rock sounds of Foreigner (who for some reason have two songs here -- "Dirty White Boy" and "Head Games"). The volume also contains some wonderfully non-classifiable tunes like Hot Chocolate's "Every 1's a Winner" and Rickie Lee Jones' "Chuck E.'s in Love." As with most of the discs in this series, it's an enjoyable trip down memory lane. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
