198666 is a five-song 7" EP with one side each of originals and covers. The three originals feature Chadbourne with an acoustic guitar and minimal accompaniment lambasting American military action in Libya, "Satanic" rock music, and Mexican Christianity. The flip side includes a rewrite of Roger Miller's "You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd" with political lyrics ("you can't build a shield in outer space") and a fairly straight rendition of Henson Cargill's "Skip a Rope." A fine song-oriented effort from Chadbourne that steers clear of his trademark improvisational jams, 198666 is a funny but dated collection that fans will want to hear. ~ Greg Adams, All Music Guide
