All Music Guide Review

Taylor wisely trims away some of the lyrical and stylistic excesses of My Blue Period for this stripped-down, basement-recorded collection of pop tunes. The songs are tighter and more streamlined, and there are some excellent tracks, but Taylor's melodies are still not consistently up to his old standards, making Menswear a sporadically successful record. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
