Just when Sahelian music seems to be going the way of Strauss or the polka, up comes one of those magnificently powerful "traditional" albums full of heavyweights who use studio tricks and gadgets only as leavening -- the occasional guitar and synthesizers here function as a fifth gear, not a stuck emergency brake.
