This CD contains previously unreleased performances by Benny Goodman that were originally recorded for the Armed Forces Radio Service during 1945-46. Four selections feature his short-lived big band of the era and these sport arrangements by Eddie Sauter, Mel Powell and Fletcher Henderson (a reworking of "Somebody Stole My Gal"). In addition to a vocal apiece from Liza Morrow and Art Lund on the orchestra performances, there are solos from trumpeter Bernie Privin and (on two numbers) the young tenor Stan Getz. However, the bulk of this set features Goodman's small group of the era with the clarinetist/leader, vibraphonist Red Norvo and pianst Teddy Wilson getting plenty of solo space. The enjoyable release is not essential but collectors will want to pick it up. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
