    All Music Guide Review

The word "hits" is used rather loosely when it comes to identifying the contents in a hits package. In this case, the word is appropriate. Every selection her was a Billboard R&B top ten gem, and several went number one. The only exception is the Lou Rawls beauty "Lady Love" (#21). With it's elegant arrangement, masculine intonation and romantic lyric, it's an injustice that this classic did not reside within the top ten. The romance does not stop with Rawls; Enchantment, Heatwave, the Floaters and Natalie Cole round out an impressive list of ageless soul classics. As for the funk, the Bar-Kays bring the groove and they are in good company with Con Funk Shun's 'Ffun" and L.T.D.'s "Back in Love Again." Raydio's "Jack and Jill" and Brothers Johnson's "Strawberry Letter 23" sustain this collection with somewhat calming, mid-tempo numbers that could fill the void for a dance tune. Nonetheless, this is a diverse selection of excellent songs. It should be noted that the tape cassette format does not include Enchantment's "Gloria" and Con Funk Shun's "Ffun." ~ Craig Lytle , All Music Guide
