    Sony's first installment in its budget-priced Between the Sheets series collects ten sexy R&B/soul numbers from giants of the genre like the O'Jays ("Let Me Make Love to You"), Luther Vandross ("There's Nothing Better Than Love"), and, of course, the Isley Brothers, who provide the compilation's namesake. Comprised of primarily late-'70s and early-'80s quiet storm hits, Vol. 1 is a little more sensual than it is downright sexy, but as the entry point for a four-disc collection designed to aid in the quest of carnal knowledge, it's all pretty much foreplay. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
