Compiling nine songs from nine somewhat diverse artists, The Real Trip: Further Self Evident Truths is a European-based indie rock mix, heavily reliant upon busy and chaotic remixing. Not really a compilation of significant, or even all that exciting, performers (Portishead giving a Ride tune a facelift constitutes the comp's two biggest names), The Real Trip indeed gathers its momentum, and its gravity, from its heady bunch of remixers turning the compositions upside down. And while its release was a couple of years ahead of the electronica boom of 1997, there are hints of the self-stylized genre -- drum'n'bass, big beat, etc. -- slipped between the frantic grooves. But quite a bit of The Real Trip is hip-hop, or even Art of Noise influenced, tucking away Godzilla-like squeals and farting synth notes into the oft-bustling corners. An illustrative, if not particularly flashy, piece of post-dancefloor mayhem. ~ Michael Gallucci, All Music Guide
